Hiya!
Recently I've been working on a simple PvP map, based off one of my friends brilliant ideas. Using /effect to create magic in Minecraft. I took the idea, and now, 3 months later, we have Mage War. Four classes, Four maps, Spellcasting, money, kill counting, on and on. However, the design isn't perfect, so I've come here to get suggestions on how to fix it. In each of the sections below, I will detail how I ran each of the functions, and how it needs to be improved.
Basic Overview:
When you first spawn in, you choose a class (Air Mage, Earth Mage, Fire Mage, Water Mage), then you are equipped with your gear, then teleported to the class select. There, you can teleport to any of the maps (provided that there's room on the map), where you begin fighting. You can collect money from the center of the maps, and spend it by opening your map, which teleports you to the store. Once you are done in the store, you can rejoin any of the maps. You can also spend your Experience in the enchanting area, by drinking the water bottle. In the enchanting area, you rename a book in the anvils to whatever spell you wish to cast (case-sensitive), and done: Everyone is reeling around like idiots in the face of your nausea 10 enchantment, and you're fine. There is also a Kill Streak scoreboard that lets you keep track of who to kill next, and who is out to kill you.
More In-depth review:
Spawn:
Spawn is set in a tripwire-covered area, which, when you spawn in clears your inventory, XP, Potion Effects, and Kill Streak. You are then TP'd to the class select area.
Class Select:
The Four classes are outlined on the halls of the spawn area, Each with different buffs, HP, and weapons. A favorite feature of mine, is the colored names in the scoreboard.
Air Mage:
Basics: 20 HP, has Jump Boost 6 and Speed 3, White Armor, with Projectile Protection 4
Weapons: Air Wand, with Sharpness 2 and Knockback 2; and the Air Bow, with Punch 6 and infinity
Other Equipment: Golden Apple x1
Notes: Highly agile, specializes in keeping others away from them, jumping while fighting is highly effective, though the best strategy is to knock others into the void.
Earth Mage:
Basics: 48 HP, has Strength 3 and Regeneration 1, Black Armor, with Protection 3
Weapons: Earth Wand, with Sharpness 5
Other Equipment: Ender Pearl x10
Notes: Great Melee Fighter, though lack of bow depowers it against ranging opponents. Ender Pearls make up lack of ranged attacks.
Fire Mage:
Basics: 36 HP, has Speed 1 and Strength 1, Orange Armor, with Fire Protection 4
Weapons: Fire Wand, with Sharpness 2, Fire Aspect 2; and Fire Bow, with Flame 1 and infinity
Other Equipment: None
Notes: Great against Air Mages, with Low HP, also helps against Earth Mage, to keep damage coming
Water Mage:
Basics: 32 HP, has Regeneration 2, Blue Armor with Thorns 3
Weapons: Water Wand, with Sharpness 3; Water Bow, with Power 5.
Other Equipment: Fishing Rod x1
Notes: Great for resisting hits for a long time, deadly to Air mage.
Maps:
There are Four Maps in Mage War, Clesrack Gulch, Shrukal Mountain, Wythrun Forest, and Orozov Courtyard. You can choose them from the map select area. The four lamps show how many people are playing each map at the time, and limits it to four players per map. (This is done with a testfor command and a comparator output, a simple solution that works quite well) All of the maps are original and quite fun to play, based on your style. The maps can also be converted easily into Mob Arenas, placing spawners around the maps. I can attest to this being a lot of fun, and highly recommend it.
Enchanting:
Once you play the map for a while without dying, you will notice your experience increases over time. Once your Experience reaches 10 levels, you can place enchantments on other players. This is done by drinking the water bottle in your inventory. Once in the enchanting area, your bottle is replaced, and you are given a book. Place the
book in one of the anvils and renaming it to one of the spells on the wall (Wither, Darkness, Poison, and Slowness), then place it in the chest. You are teleported back to
the fight after the enchantment has taken place.
Store:
When you are playing on a map for a while, gold nuggets will begin to spawn in the center of the map. If you collect these, your Coins scoreboard will increase. Once you
collect over 5 coins, you can buy items in the store, by opening the map in your inventory. This teleports you into the shop area. Then, just walk into the area with the item
you want to buy, and you are given the item, a new map, and the cost in deducted from the Coins area. (This hasn't been working perfectly, so if anyone has any
suggestions on how to fix it, they would be welcome)
That's just about everything to it!
